Mark Crosling of Strategic Content recently published the ultimate guide for all your free photo needs. Listing 56 websites, you can use it to download high-quality photos at no cost. All the listed free photo websites have been summarized to include information about:
- any copyright restrictions.
- whether photo attribution is required.
- search capability on the site to find photos.
- whether signup is required.
- link to the website.
Unless specified in the summary below, photos are free of copyright restrictions, which means you can download them and use them for commercial or personal purposes, without attribution.
I was particularly impressed by some websites that specialize in specific topics, such as food or vintage photos. Just click on the images to visit the respective website!

Yes, I know, great writers show, not tell. So why do we need pictures? Writing evolved from image.
In my opinion, thinking evolved from making images in the sand and then on walls.
I’ve been locked out of my istockphoto account and all my catalogues for more than a year now and which means I can no longer access a catalog of images (and videos and sound clips) I paid hundreds of dollars for. Why pay even more now. I downloaded Nick’s list to my cloud. I suspect you’ll find it useful before you can imagine.

Thanks, Nick. I have sites I belong to that insist upon pictures to match my stories and I can never find free sites–even they they advertise as free. This is a gold mine for me!!!
