Regular readers know that most of my stories began as dreams and that I have included several of them in my science fiction series, Pearseus, as well. But I’m hardly the only one, as this Infographic by Sleep Advisor will show you.
From Mary Shelley to Stephen King, here are 11 famous books which started off as dreams… or nightmares.

Very interesting, Nicholas. My latest idea for a trilogy (my first) was also inspired by a dream.

I could never write books about my dreams, as they would be far too strange to read. Though dreams often inspire my ‘Thinking Aloud’ posts on Sundays.
Thanks, Nicholas.
Best wishes, Pete.

thank you for this very interesting post Nicholas, I had no idea. Maybe I should start scribbling down my dreams too. 🙂

Kidding aside, writing down my dreams has helped me in a number of occasions. Namely, they help me realize stuff, especially subconscious observations about people and situations surrounding me.

I get a big assist from dreams. Mine are usually vignette length pieces that I have to work out in the daylight.

That has often bugged me. I’m like, “subconscious, you did such a great job telling me the story. Why can’t you now reveal the ending, too?” 😀

I had dreams adapted to be incorporated in my writing too. From a church where someone entered asking for asylum, to a discussion on the port’s quay…

Time Shifters was another one that started as a dream. The first scene of chapter one woke me and I had to start writing furiously!

I love it when a story is sparked by a dream! I just finished a short story that started with a dream and I had so much fun writing it!
