You may recall that, even though I spend most of my time in Greece nowadays, I consider myself half-Scot after studying, working, and even starting my company, Istomedia, in Edinburgh.
Which is why I was so amused to hear on GeeksAreSexy.net about an Imgur user called whovianmuse, who recently posted some hilarious excerpts from the Scots language edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone Stane. Yes, this is a real book:
As the blurb explains,
Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, o nummer fower, Privet Loan, were prood tae say that they were gey normal, thank ye awfie muckle. They were the lest fowk ye wid jalouse wid be taigled up wi onythin unco or ferlie, because they jist widnae hae onythin tae dae wi joukery packery like yon.
It must be good, too, judging by the reviews:
So I got the Scots edition of Philosopher’s Stone for Christmas this year and uh…yeah, I’m pretty sure this is hands down the best book I have ever or will ever own.
Some more pages from this brilliant edition:
Unfortunately, this is only available in paperback format just now. And even though I’m looking forward to the Kindle edition, I can’t wait for the audiobook one!
For more photos from the book, visit GeeksAreSexy.net. You can find the book on Amazon.

I must presume that JK Rowling allowed this, and it is indeed amusing, even it can only really be understood by around five million people. 🙂
More royalties for JK. Kerching!
Best wishes, Pete.
