Orthodox Easter is next Sunday but I thought it made more sense for me to post this today.
Last year, I wrote about Greek Orthodox Easter and how Greeks celebrate it. With a country on lockdown, it’s funny how few of these customs can be observed this year. We’ll be watching the midnight Mass from home, on Internet TV. We’ll be eating mageiritsa alone instead of sharing it with family. And countless lambs will be spared from participating in the traditional Easter feast as the main dish.
Which, in a sense, is probably for the best: all these customs can distract from the main message of the day, which is one of rebirth and, for us Christians, resurrection. The promise that death is not the end of life. And that seems kinda more important than shooting rockets at each other.
So, no matter how you spend today, Happy Easter, everyone!

Happy Easter, Nicholas. Like you, I participate in Mass through the internet. To my surprise, even the airwaves have become blessed. Take good care of yourself and your lovely family.

Hi, Michelle! It was… unusual, for sure. Mute. Closed churches and no celebrations. But we’re all well and healthy, so all is well!
