Book Awards

My children’s book, Runaway Smile, has won the Gelett Burgess Children’s Book Award, in the Young Adult Fiction category.

It was also a finalist in the 2015 International Book Awards, in the Children’s Fiction category and a ‘Children’s Fiction’ Finalist in the 2015 Independent Author Network Book of the Year Awards.

Pearseus: Schism was a Noveltunity Book Club winner.

All of the books in the Pearseus series, as well as The Power of Six, have reached #1 in various Amazon sub-genres.

The short story, “I Come in Peace,” was a winner in the Invasion competition by Cube publishing in Greece, 2009.

Blog Awards

Thanks to the wonderful people who visit my blog and have voted for it, I have been awarded the following awards:

My author buddy, Charles E. Yallowitz, has nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award.

Susan of Susan’s Personal Blog very kindly nominated me for the delightfully cute Seal Of Approval Blogger Recognition Award.

I was first nominated for the One Lovely Blog Award by Shannon A. Thompson, then by Tim Hemlin, followed by the wonderful Kyrosmagica and Matt and his cats. This is the first time anyone from the feline family has nominated me, so it’s particularly flattering. Lastly, I was nominated by Late to the Theater – my go-to place for all things TV/movie.

The very talented Robin Gott nominated me for the Liebster award, followed by the talented Lauren Jeffrey. I actually went the extra mile for Lauren, as she had a particularly fun selection of questions. You can read my answers here. Simon Farnell also nominated me, which was really nice of him.

The lovely Marlena Hand first nominated me for the Very Inspiring Blogger, followed by Sally Sue Ember, Dale Furse, Carly Compass, JJ Spina, The Planetary Defense Command, Crime Writer Sue Coletta, The Owl Lady (aka Viv Drewa) and the wonderful C. E. Robinson, who was particularly inspired by my awards page.

C. E. Robinson has also kindly nominated me for the Premio Dardos award, the Encouraging Thunder Award and the Tour through Blogland. You can read my creative process here.

The very, well, kind not to mention talented) Erika Kind has nominated me for the Creative Blogger Award, the Brotherhood Of The World Award, the Premio Dardos award and the Starlight Blogger Award. The rules for the latter are pretty simple: Include the logo of the award in a post or on your blog (please never alter the logo). Please don’t delete this note: the design for the STARLIGHT Bloggers Award has been created from YesterdayAfter. It is a Copyright image you cannot alter or change it in any way; just pass it to others that deserve this award. Copyright 2015 © YesterdayAfter.com – Design by Carolina Russo.

Speaking of the Creative Blogger Award, Plain Jane of Family Rules also nominated me, as part of the 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Me challenge.

Last, but by no means least, Tina of Diotima’s Ladder nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award, followed by Amanda Clemmer of Finish that Novel, Smorgasbord, the Planetary Defense Command, Erika Kind and Melissa of Today, You Will Write (formerly, They Walk By Night).

I believe I have to share a few things about myself now, and nominate some of the many wonderful people whom I follow.

Random facts about me

  1. We have three pets. Basta got his name because he’s as stubborn as they get. Perro, because he’s always following me around and licking my fingers. I think everyone will agree this suggests a serious personality disorder. Which is why his nickname is “silly cat.” And Meli (Greek for honey) got her name because of her sweet nature. No, we didn’t consider calling her, “Gato.”
  2. I started this blog to promote my books. Soon, I realized that blogging was fun even when not mentioning my books, so I changed its focus into sharing my experiences from this crazy journey that writing has been. My new emphasis has been on being fun, being helpful and being real. People have responded to this in an unexpectedly kind way, as witnessed by my awards, and blogging has turned into a passion of its own.
  3. I met my wife, Electra, at a vet. Which is appropriate, as we both love our four-legged family. From the blog of Nicholas C. Rossis, author of science fiction, the Pearseus epic fantasy series and children's books
  4. I love photography and had an exhibition at the Elephant House in Edinburgh once. Thankfully, my father-in-law bought all photographs, thus ensuring its success (I love this guy). From the blog of Nicholas C. Rossis, author of science fiction, the Pearseus epic fantasy series and children's books
  5. I photograph dead people. Accidentally. Or at least it would appear so. This picture was taken as I was snapping shots at a client’s Bed and Breakfast, in Edinburgh. What came out surprised me. I later found out they’re called floaters, apparently. I should probably not have been so surprised: Scots do take their ghosties pretty seriously. From the blog of Nicholas C. Rossis, author of science fiction, the Pearseus epic fantasy series and children's books
  6. I wore a kilt for the first (and last) time at my PhD graduation in Edinburgh. To my relief, turns out that Scots do wear underwear underneath.graduation-kilt
  7. Both Electra and I are masters of disguise, as this selfie clearly demonstrates. Clearly, we are criminal masterminds, and no one but our own mothers could possibly recognize us.
  8. From the blog of Nicholas C. Rossis, author of science fiction, the Pearseus epic fantasy series and children's booksContrary to popular belief, it does snow in Greece. In fact, there’s a number of ski resorts in the country. This photo, however, was taken outside our home. From the blog of Nicholas C. 1. Nicholas, You are so deserving of all the awards and I noticed you do not have the Premio Dardos Award! Good! I nominated you for that award which is given in recognition of cultural, ethical, literary, and personal values transmitted in creative and original writing. It’s an easy, minimal work award. You can find out more about it here:

Premio Dardos Award – For Before Sundown

    Best Wishes, Christine

  2. Nicholas, oh my gosh, I just found my name # 34 on your list of nominees! Thank you so much for thinking of me. I’m a new follower so missed this post. Sorry to say, I’ve had to stop accepting awards after too many in a row. The Premio Dardos is a no fuss one with minimal work and I did accept it. And I’ll be participating in a Tour of Blogland in a few days. All to do with the writing process. More about that one as I’d like to invite you to participate. It would be awesome for people to know your writing process more in depth. And you know I like your writing! Christine (C.E.)

    • Lol – I understand what you mean, which is why I set up this award page. This way, I can simply add any new nominations without having to think more random facts about me 🙂

And yes, of course I’d love to participate in a writing process tour. Just let me know what I need to do 🙂

      • Pretty clever solution…the awards page! Accepting them individually takes hours of work! I’m working on the answers for “A Tour Through Blogland” known also known as the “The Virtual Blog Tour Award.” There are 4 questions to answer about your creative writing process, then pass the award on to 4 other writers (or two or three). I’ll publish the post by Monday 1/19 (the date given by my nominator). And I’ll let you know here in Awards it’s done and you are nominated. You can just let me know how much time you need to do this and we’ll make that the date for you to publish. It’s fun and rewarding to be part of the Blogosphere Writers Circle. Christine

        • Thanks! Like you, I encountered the problem of being nominated repeatedly for the same award. I could refuse, of course, but that sounds, well, rude. 🙂 So, I came up with this solution. I hope it works!

I’m looking forward to your post, thanks for including me! 🙂

  9. Nicholas, here I am again with another award for you! This one you have, but you don’t have the light green colored one with the typewriter! It’s the Very Inspiring Blogger Award, and there a little surprise write-up about you there. Hope you like it! • Woo hoo – thank you! And it was such fun reading how I’ve inspired you to accept more awards without worrying about it. Now if you’ll excuse me, there’s someone thumping at my door, wearing a “blogger” award armband. Hmm…
      Have a lovely Valentine’s day 🙂

      • Chuckle…chuckle! As Chris Graham (Mr. Story Reading ApeMan) would say, it’s probably Mark from WordPress (we blame him for every situation or malady like stuff (mistakes) we can’t undo on posts already gone world-wide. But this time he’s intrigued with your unique “marketing” strategy for accepting awards (without a ton of work)! He’s smiling! Think he might want to negotiate and have his name on the copyright too! Happy Valentine’s Day to you too, (and the whole family). Christine

  10. Nicholas, not sure why clicking on the post address in the prior comment doesn’t get you to the actual award post. If this doesn’t work either, just click on the Awards (on the black menu bar) and you’re there! All Best, Christine
