A few years ago, I had posted about Dave Chesson, aka Kindlepreneur, and KDP Rocket — a tool that generates the best keywords for your Amazon books.
To understand the importance of keywords, check out Dave’s post on Kindle Keywords, or this one on Fiction Keyword Strategies.
While KDP Rocket is not free, Dave has also developed a host of other handful tools and tutorials, including a free AMS tutorial — the best I’ve watched so far on the subject: clear, all-encompassing, with a friendly tone and plenty of notes at the end.
Amazon Book Description Generator
Dave has also long offered a lovely freebie called Amazon Book Description Generator. This is a free tool that allows you to format your Amazon blurb in a way that makes it pop out without needing any fancy code. As Dave explains on his website,
Ever wonder why some book descriptions look nicer, have bigger words, and stick out more?
That’s because many self-publishers are using Amazon approved HTML in order to make them look that way. Sounds crazy, right? Well, it turns out that making your description stick out can also help to increase your book’s sales conversion rate…meaning you can get 15% more sales…which is nice.
Now, Dave has updated the whole tool to give it even more helpful features:
- Comply with all of the changes Amazon has made when it comes to what formatting is allowed in book descriptions.
- Can be used to also generate blurbs for Barnes & Noble and Kobo with a click of a button — and keep perfect adherence to their guidelines.
- Can be used to format your Amazon editorial reviews.
- Allow you to add special characters to your descriptions, to the extent permitted by the different retailers.
Amazon regularly changes what types of formatting they allow in their descriptions, but when they do, they grandfather in descriptions using old formatting features. For this reason, you may occasionally see blurbs that have giant fonts, orange text, etc.
But Amazon will not allow you to use these features when you write a new description or update an old one. That’s why you won’t see certain formatting options in the generator. To save you time and headache, the tool only offers you the options that will actually work on Amazon.
Here’s how to use the new, improved tool:
Use it whenever you want a book description that stands out!

Thanks for this, Nicholas! I actually have KDP Rocket and have not had a chance to work with it. (Something I plan to correct soon.) But being able to create better looking book descriptions is one thing I believe I can find time for much sooner. The video has inspired me, and I’m sharing your post so others can learn a bit more, too. Thanks again! 🙂
